About
Eugenia Kelbert Rudan is an Honorary Researcher at the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia (UEA). She serves as Co-Director of the East Centre: UEA Centre for the Study of East Central Europe and the Former Soviet Space and is a member of the British Centre for Literary Translation Research Group.
Her research centers on literary modernism, translation studies, and multilingual literary practices, with a particular focus on Russian and East European contexts. She explores stylistic transfer, cross-linguistic reflexivity, and interdisciplinary semiotic theories, especially in relation to figures like Yuri Lotman and modernist translators such as Maria and Eugene Jolas.
The recent publications demonstrate a consistent engagement with translation as a cultural and stylistic phenomenon, with thematic threads including character representation in translated literature, entropy as a literary trope, and the recovery of lost multilingual modernist projects. Her work bridges comparative literature, semiotics, and cultural history.
She led the Leverhulme Trust-funded project Translation and Cross-Lingual Stylistic Transfer (2017–2023), reflecting her leadership in funded research. While no formal advisees are listed, her role in research groups and centers suggests active mentorship and collaboration.
She is affiliated with the East Centre, a research hub dedicated to the literary and cultural study of East Central Europe and the former Soviet space, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and translation-focused scholarship.
