Eugene Y. Wang is the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Professor of Asian Art at Harvard University and Founding Director of Harvard FAS CAMLab. His research spans from early Chinese art and archaeology to modern and contemporary Chinese art and cinema, with a focus on Buddhist visual culture, cognitive studies of art, and biocentric art integrating visual, biological, and ecological systems.
- Current work explores the cognition-aesthetics-mindscape nexus through immersive media and digital humanities projects.
His scholarship has been recognized with the Sakamoto Nichijin Academic Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship (2005). CAMLab initiatives under his leadership include:
- Digital Gandhara: A large-scale mapping of Buddhist sites in Afghanistan and Pakistan
- Shadow Cave: Research on cognitive models in Asian Buddhist cave systems
