Ethel Brooks

Ethel Brooks is a Professor and Chair of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Rutgers University, with a joint appointment in Sociology. She holds a Ph.D. from New York University (2000). Her expertise bridges gender studies, globalization, and labor practices, focusing on South Asia, Central America, and the U.S.

Research interests include critical political economy, feminist theory, postcolonialism, and transnational labor organizing. Current projects examine garment industry activism and connections between consumption practices, agrobusiness, and empire discourse.

Publications span transnational protest dynamics, child labor in Bangladesh, and Chinese capital flows in Central America. Her work critiques globalized production's gendered impacts and state formations.
