Ethan Shattock is a Lecturer in Law at the School of Law, Queen's University Belfast (QUB). He specializes in the intersection of law, technology, and human rights, with a focus on online misinformation regulation, freedom of expression, and electoral integrity. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to justice and strong institutions.
He holds a PhD and has received awards including the Philip Leith Prize for Best PhD Paper (2023) and the Matheson Postgraduate Scholar Award (2022). Ethan teaches EU law, Contract Law, and Constitutional Law, and pioneered Europe’s first postgraduate module on misinformation law in 2025. He is Disability Advisor for the School of Law and a member of the Global Intellectual Property Law and Technology (G-IPTECH) Centre.
Ethan’s research examines legal frameworks for regulating harmful content, balancing free speech with safety, and electoral integrity.
