About
Dr. Ethan Anderson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at Louisiana State University's School of Veterinary Medicine, where he joined the faculty in August 2023. His research program investigates the epigenetic and molecular foundations of Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Alcohol Use Disorders (AUDs), with a focus on neuroplastic adaptations in the nucleus accumbens that drive addiction and relapse behaviors.
Research Focus: The Anderson Lab employs translational neuroscience approaches to:
- Characterize drug-induced epigenetic changes in reward pathways
- Develop targeted interventions for AUD/SUD using viral/chemical tools
- Explore stress-anxiety interactions in addiction vulnerability
- Validate novel pharmacotherapies through behavioral models
Awards & Grants: Dr. Anderson has secured significant funding and recognition, including:
- NIH K01 ($942K) and STTR ($392K) grants for addiction therapeutics
- Louisiana Board of Regents Award ($180K) for neural circuit research
- ACNP Travel Awards, NIH training fellowships, and teaching honors
- First Place at MUSC Research Day for addiction neuroscience
Educational & Clinical Engagement: He teaches veterinary and graduate neuroscience courses while leading outreach programs. Though not a clinician, his lab advances translational research through NeuroEpigenix LLC to bridge preclinical discoveries to AUD/SUD treatments.
