Esther Sulkers

Dr. Esther Sulkers is a Researcher at the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen. Her work focuses on psychological adaptation in children and adolescents with somatic diseases, self-regulation mechanisms, and cross-cultural research, particularly in India. She holds a PhD in children with cancer and has extensive experience in healthcare and education for underserved populations in Kolkata.

Her research interests include the psychological impact of chronic illnesses, post-traumatic growth, and the effects of nutrition on health outcomes. She collaborates with NGOs in India and has contributed to studies on undernutrition in urban slums and the mental health of cancer survivors. Sulkers is also involved in teaching, serving as a scientific coach for the Research Master in Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology.

Her publications span topics such as physical activity maintenance in older adults, body composition changes in cancer survivors, and life satisfaction in impoverished communities. She employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, emphasizing global health equity and resilience.
