About
Estelle Silm is a Research Fellow at Tallinn University of Technology's School of Science, Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology. She holds a Doctor's Degree (2022) from the same institution, focusing on asymmetric organocatalytic reactions of cyclopentane-1,2-dione under the supervision of Tõnis Kanger. Her academic journey includes a master's degree (cum laude, 2016) and bachelor's degree (cum laude, 2014) from Tallinn University of Technology, with exchange studies at the National University of Singapore in 2015.
Her research interests span organic chemistry, catalysis, and green chemistry, with a focus on asymmetric synthesis, sustainable catalyst development, and valorization of natural resources. She has contributed to projects like the Centre of Excellence in Circular Economy for Strategic Mineral and Carbon Resources and the Sustainable Conversion of the Organic Part of Mineral Resources to High-Value Chemicals.
Dr. Silm has authored or co-authored multiple publications, including articles in Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry and ChemSusChem, as well as conference presentations on topics like organocatalytic reactions and green chemistry. Her work has been supported by grants from the Estonian Research Council and the Ministry of Education and Research.
She has received several awards, including the National Contest for University Students diploma (2022) and multiple Dora Plus mobility scholarships. Her supervision includes advising Katarina Kruus on a master's project on pigment valorization of beach-cast seaweed biomass.
