Esteban Crespo

Esteban Crespo is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish at Boston University's College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on gender, sexuality, and colonial dynamics in Early Modern Iberian and Latin American contexts. He holds a PhD from Yale University, following degrees from Yale and Ecuador's Pontificia Universidad Católica.

His work bridges literary analysis with queer theory, colonial studies, and the history of the book. Recent projects examine how dissident sexual cultures were embedded in daily life across Iberia and its American viceroyalties. Supported by institutions like the Folger Library and Houghton Library, his scholarship emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches.

Public engagement is central to his practice, with writing and speaking aimed at non-academic audiences. Current projects include a book analyzing queer intimacies in Early Modern Iberian worlds, challenging reductive views of policing systems in that era.
