Esta Kaal

Esta Kaal is a Visiting Lecturer (0.8 FTE) at Tallinn University's Baltic Film, Media and Arts School and Head of Department at the National Institute for Health Development. With over 25 years in media/communication research, she focuses on crisis, risk, health, and environmental communication. She holds a Research Master's Degree from the University of Tartu (2008) and a BA in Economics (1984).

Her work includes award-winning projects like the 'Selge' alcohol reduction program (IANPHI 2020) and the Estonian Rescue Board Medal (2018). Key projects include 'Increasing Crisis Preparedness' (2025-2027) and 'Raising Climate Awareness' (2025-2026). She has supervised 9 master's theses, including studies on media coverage, environmental awareness, and public health communication.

Research interests span digital learning tools, bullying prevention, and science-policy interfaces. She collaborates on EU-funded initiatives like 'Coordinated Opportunities for Advanced Leadership in Science Communication in Europe' (2023-2027).
