Essam Eliwa

Dr. Essam Eliwa is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the School of Computing and Digital Technologies and the Industry and Innovation Research Institute. He holds a PhD and MSc in Computer Science from the University of Nottingham. His career spans teaching, software development, and clinical trials programming. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in Egypt at Misr International University, Ain Shams University, and the Arab Academy.

His research focuses on Web Science (information retrieval, automation frameworks like Web2Sh), software engineering, automated assessment systems, and augmented reality in education. Key contributions include the WSh scripting language and Evalseer, a gamified assessment tool. He has also explored deep learning for mental health diagnosis and AR applications in automotive industries.

Teaching expertise includes software engineering, web/mobile programming, and software architecture. Advising and project supervision are central to his pedagogy. His work bridges academic research and practical software solutions, emphasizing innovation in education and healthcare.
