Erol Saglam

Dr. Erol Saglam is a Social Anthropologist affiliated with Istanbul Medeniyet University as a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology since 2020. He previously held postdoctoral fellowships at Stockholm University (2018–2019) and Freie Universität Berlin. His research bridges political anthropology, ethnographic methodology, and heritage preservation, focusing on statecraft, conspiracy theories, and masculine subjectivity in authoritarian contexts.

• Education: Undergraduate & graduate studies at Bogazici University, Istanbul; Ph.D. in Anthropology from Birkbeck, University of London (2017).
• Research Themes: Explores state-society interactions, vigilante violence, conspiratorial narratives, and intangible cultural heritages (e.g., Romeyka language in Trabzon).
• Recent Publications: 2025 Current Anthropology article on statecraft through conspiratorial practices; 2024 Annual Review of Anthropology piece on conspiratorial agency in authoritarian regimes; 2023 Third World Quarterly study of bureaucratic resistance under autocratic pressure.
