Ernst Fehr is a Professor of Microeconomics and Experimental Economics at the University of Zurich, where he has been since 1994. He currently serves as Director of the Department of Economics and was previously Director of the Institute for Empirical Research in Economics. He is an affiliated faculty member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Economics Department.

His research integrates game theory, experimental economics, and insights from neuroscience, biology, and sociology to study human altruism, social preferences, and bounded rationality in strategic interactions.
