Erin McCann is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UW-L), Department of Health Professions - OT since 2017. She holds a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (2020) from Mount Mary University, a Master's in Occupational Therapy (2004) from Western Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (2002) from Michigan State University. Her primary research interests include Pediatrics, Early Intervention, School-Based Occupational Therapy, Acute Care, and the integration of simulation-based learning to enhance clinical reasoning skills in students. She has pioneered the use of robotics in clinical assessment, as evidenced by her Master's project at IEEE-ICRA.
Erin has also served as an instructor and fieldwork coordinator at Western Technical College (2009–2012) and has extensive professional experience in pediatric and adult outpatient care, as well as acute care settings. She currently teaches courses such as Pediatrics I/II, Clinical Analysis of Practice, and Program Development.
In 2020, Erin received an award for her post-professional doctorate, recognizing her contributions to advancing simulation techniques in occupational therapy education. She has been instrumental in establishing on-campus clinics at UW-L, which provide community service while offering students hands-on learning opportunities. These clinics, supervised by licensed instructors, focus on improving physical and cognitive performance post-illness or injury, reflecting her commitment to bridging clinical practice and education.
