Erin Brummett is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies, Media and Journalism at Commonwealth University. She joined the faculty in fall 2015 and specializes in teaching and researching interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and identity dynamics in diverse relational contexts.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Communication Studies from The University of Iowa
- M.A. in Communication Studies from The University of Delaware
Research Interests: Dr. Brummett examines communication in romantic relationships marked by difference, information/privacy management, and social support processes. Her work critically explores non-normative relational scripts, particularly focusing on race, identity, and diversity in interpersonal contexts, as well as classroom-based approaches to critical discussions on equity and inclusion.
Service and Leadership: She serves as Director of the Frederick Douglass Social Justice Learning Community, APSCUF Chapter Secretary, and holds roles on the APSCUF Social Justice Committee, Frederick Douglass Institute Executive Board, and High School Diversity Conference Committee. Within her department, she advises Lambda Pi Eta Xi Omega honor society and chairs the Curriculum Committee.
