Erik Gilbert is a Professor of History and Phi Alpha Theta Advisor at Arkansas State University's Beck College of Sciences & Mathematics. His work bridges global history with regional expertise in the Indian Ocean world and East Africa.

Recent publications highlight trends in Indian Ocean material culture, rice domestication, and colonial trade economies. His work combines phylogenetic analysis with historical methodology to trace agricultural pathogens and economic networks.
