About
Erik Folven is a Professor at the Department of Electronic Systems at NTNU. He co-leads a multidisciplinary research group focusing on spin-based computational paradigms. His work includes coordinating the EU FET-Open SpinENGINE project (collaborating with European universities and IBM) targeting extreme low-power computing devices, and leading the NRC-funded SPrINTER project developing batteryless intermittent computing technologies.
Research interests span artificial spin systems, superferromagnetism, nanomagnetic ensemble modeling, domain engineering in oxides, and advanced imaging/fabrication techniques (X-PEEM, MFM, EBL).
He teaches semiconductor devices (TFE4146) and solid-state electronics (TFE4172) at NTNU. Current projects aim to revolutionize sustainable computing through spin-based technologies that reduce energy waste and integrate computation/memory functions.
