Erik Bergman is a researcher affiliated with the Department of Church and Mission Studies at Lund University, focusing on late medieval Swedish religiosity. His primary expertise lies in medieval sermons, particularly those from Vadstena Monastery, and the cult of Saint Birgitta (1303-1373), including their rhetorical forms, liturgical functions, and audience dynamics.
Research Interests: Bergman's work explores the intersection of sermons, saint cults, and liturgy in late medieval Sweden. He has published extensively on Vadstena Abbey's sermons, especially those addressing nuns in the 16th century, and is currently translating older texts and preparing publications on Severinus's homilies from 1552.
Publications & Projects: His doctoral thesis (2024) analyzes Birgittine preaching and Saint Birgitta's cult in Vadstena Abbey (1397–c. 1510). He co-edited From Jerusalem to Dalby (2024), a festchrift for Stephan Borgehammar.
