Erica Carter is Professor of German and Film at King's College London, founding chair of the German Screen Studies Network, and affiliated with the Global Cultures Institute.
Research spans German and colonial film histories, audiovisual archives, decolonial memory practices, and feminist cultural studies. Current projects include 'White Bodies in Motion' (media anthropology of colonial expatriates) and 'Archival Reparations' (Sudanese film heritage).
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on German film heritage restoration, feminist reappraisals of archival materials, and decolonial approaches to cinematic memory. Recent works emphasize Sudanese filmmaker Hussein Shariffe's archive and German women's film heritage recovery.
Awards include Warwick Excellence in Teaching (2003) and Gregory Kolovakos Award for AIDS cultural politics writing (1990).
