Eric M. Davis is Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Clemson University's College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Drexel University (2013) and B.S. from Clemson University (2008). Research focuses on structure-property relationships in functional polymers for energy and water applications.
Primary research investigates polymer membrane systems for redox flow batteries, fuel cells, and desalination technologies. Key themes include: 1) Ion transport mechanisms in nanocomposite membranes; 2) Swelling dynamics and water diffusion in ionomers; 3) Lignin-based biocomposites for sustainable separations; 4) Advanced manufacturing of functional polymer films. Methodologies combine spectroscopic/scattering techniques with poromechanical characterization.
Recent publications demonstrate innovation in membrane materials for vanadium/zinc-iodine flow batteries and stimuli-responsive lignin hydrogels.
