Eric Lewis Beverley

Eric Lewis Beverley is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Stony Brook University. His research focuses on global connections through the lens of South Asian and Indian Ocean world history, with particular attention to sovereignty, urban development, and legal transitions.

• Service: Served on Global Urban History Project Board (2025-2027), American Institute of Indian Studies Trustee (2022-2025), and Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East editorial board

• Urban history across Indian Ocean cities
• Land claims and property rights in postcolonial Hyderabad
• Transregional legal and political-economic transitions
