Eric Krakauer serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is a palliative care physician and medical ethicist with extensive international experience. His work focuses on integrating palliative care into healthcare systems globally, particularly in low-resource settings.
Research interests include palliative care delivery models, ethics in end-of-life care, humanitarian medical response, and health system strengthening. As a Fulbright Scholar and former WHO Medical Officer, he has developed palliative care programs in Vietnam, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Malawi, Haiti, and Russia.
Krakauer founded one of the first academic palliative care departments in the developing world at the University of Medicine & Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City. He has edited WHO manuals on palliative care integration in primary health care, pediatrics, and humanitarian crises.
