Eric Jones

Eric Jones serves as Associate Professor of Botany and Co-Chair of the Division of Integrative and Marine Sciences at the University of Maine at Machias, where he curates the UMM Herbarium housing vascular/non-vascular plants and marine macroalgae collections.

His educational background includes:

• Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Florida State University (2012)
• B.S. from Florida State University
• A.S. from Tallahassee Community College

Research centers on biodiversity, philosophy of science, and botanical systems with expertise spanning molecular biology, phylogenetics, and plant development—evidenced by doctoral work on Houstonia mating systems. His teaching portfolio covers general biology, ecology, plant systematics, and bioethics, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement with environmental issues.

Dr. Jones actively mentors students through advisory roles for WUMM Radio, Sigma Chi Lambda, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha, while serving as faculty liaison to Sunrise Senior College. He further contributes to campus life as a bass guitarist and WUMM Radio DJ since 2019.
