Eric Handley

Eric Handley (19??-2013) was a distinguished scholar in Classics, holding the Regius Professor of Greek at the University of Cambridge (1984-1994). He served as Head of Department (1968-1984) and Fellow of Trinity College. His affiliations included the Royal Academy of Arts (Professor of Ancient Literature), Princeton University (Senior Research Fellow), and the Institute of Classical Studies at the University of London. He earned a Doctorate from the University of Athens (1995).

Research focused on Ancient Greek literature, papyrology, and classical textual analysis. Notable works include editions of Euripides' Telephus, Menander's Dyskolos, and studies on Aristophanes. Awards include membership in the Norwegian Academy of Science (1996) and Academia Europaea (1988).

His career spanned institutions like Stanford (Visiting Professor), Harvard (Visiting Lecturer), and the University of Melbourne.
