Eric Baer

Eric Baer is the Herbert Henry Dow Professor in the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University's Case School of Engineering. His research focuses on processing-structure-property relationships in polymeric systems, creating micro- and nano-layered films, and developing biomimetic hierarchical materials. He oversees educational activities at the CLiPS NSF Science and Technology Center and mentors 9 graduate students and 2 postdoctoral associates.

Research interests include irreversible microdeformation mechanisms, pressure effects on polymer morphology, hierarchical structure-mechanical function relationships, polymer composites, crystallization processes, and biomimetic materials. He has pioneered studies on confined crystallization in layered films and dielectric phenomena in polymer systems.

Recent articles explore topics like high barrier polymer packaging, shape memory materials, and electromechanical deformation of multilayer films. His work bridges fundamental polymer science with applications in materials engineering and biomedical systems.
