About
Eric André is an Associate Professor and Head of the Quantitative Finance & Economics Department at emlyon business school. He teaches market finance and statistics in the Grande École program and the MSc in Finance. With a Doctorate in Economic Sciences from Aix-Marseille University and an engineering diploma from École Centrale Paris, he brings both academic rigor and practical industry experience to his role, having worked as an interest rate options trader for European banks for twelve years prior to his academic career.
His research focuses on decision theory under risk and ambiguity, financial markets and asset valuation, continuous-time finance, risk measures, and portfolio management. He examines the consequences of random and epistemic uncertainties for financial markets with applications for risk management and decision-making. His recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on mathematical approaches to understanding information flows in option markets and the impact of ambiguity aversion on financial decisions.
Dr. André has co-authored numerous academic articles in prestigious journals including the Journal of Derivatives, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, Journal of Mathematical Economics, and Mathematical Social Sciences. He has also contributed to public discourse through articles in major media outlets such as Le Monde, Libération, La Croix, and The Conversation, where he addresses topics at the intersection of finance, ethics, and Catholic social doctrine.
His research output shows a clear trajectory from technical financial modeling toward broader societal questions about economic systems, business ethics, and the role of values in financial decision-making. This evolution reflects his dual expertise in quantitative finance and ethical considerations in business.
