Eric Anderson

Eric Anderson is a tenured Professor in the School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University and serves as Senior Associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts. He has been teaching at CMU for over 25 years and was a co-founder of the Integrated Innovation Institute.

Professor Anderson holds advanced degrees in Design Education from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor's in Industrial Design from the Philadelphia College of Art (now University of the Arts).

His research and teaching focus on design thinking and strategy, user-centered design methods, and experience design within product design and visualization. He has extensive expertise in integrating design, engineering, and business perspectives for product and service innovation, having co-directed the Master of Integrated Innovation for Products and Services program.

Professor Anderson has published recent works on diversity and inclusion in design, with notable writings exploring themes of equity, representation, and social justice in the design field, reflecting his commitment to advancing inclusive practices within design education and professional contexts.

Before his academic career, Professor Anderson spent over a decade as a professional design practitioner creating solutions across medical instrumentation, tradeshow exhibition, corporate identity, and consumer products. His industry experience informs his approach to design education and innovation processes.
