Eran Ben-Joseph is the Class of 1922 Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at MIT, affiliated with the Department of Urban Studies and Planning within the School of Architecture + Planning. He served as Department Head from 2013 to 2020 and directs the MIT-Israel Program.
- PhD from University of California, Berkeley
- Degree from Chiba National University, Japan
His research spans urban and physical design, sustainable site planning, standards and regulations, and industrial urbanism. Recent work focuses on aging populations, ecological development models, and mobility infrastructure. Publications include influential books on urban design principles and parking culture.
Selected in MIT faculty list, his projects integrate multidisciplinary approaches across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Current research includes climate resilience strategies and low-carbon urban forms.
He has led initiatives such as:
- J-WAFS Seed Grant for climate adaptation in Colombia
- Urban retrofitting frameworks for aging neighborhoods
