Eraldo Souza dos Santos

Eraldo Souza dos Santos is an Assistant Professor of Law and Society and History (by courtesy) at the University of California, Irvine. Holding a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Panthéon-Sorbonne University, his work bridges history, philosophy, and creative nonfiction.

His research explores the history of ideas, politics of translation, and racial underpinnings of democracy. Recent projects include a global history of civil disobedience and a family memoir on his mother’s enslavement in Brazil under the military dictatorship. He also examines modern slavery’s afterlife and the political potential of performing arts, having performed at the Centre Georges Pompidou.

His publications include "She Is There" (Best Small Fictions 2025), "Note of a Native Son" (Inkfish Magazine), and "Everything Disappears" (Decolonial Passage), with themes spanning Afro-Indigenous erasure, trauma, and anti-protest rhetoric. He has been recognized by prestigious residencies like Yaddo and Tin House.
