About
Enrico Pons is an Associate Professor at Politecnico di Torino, Department of Energy (DENERG), and a member of the Interdepartmental Center Ec-L - Energy Center Lab. He is also affiliated with the College of Electrical and Energy Engineering and actively participates in research groups GUSEE and LAME within DENERG.
His educational background includes a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (2004) and a Ph.D. in Industrial Safety and Risk Analysis (2008), both from Politecnico di Torino. His research focuses on electrical energy systems, with particular emphasis on electrical safety, real-time simulation of power systems, integration of renewable generation in distribution networks, smart metering, and traction electrification systems.
Prof. Pons's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on digital twin applications, electric vehicle integration, power quality analysis, and co-simulation techniques for power systems. His work bridges theoretical research with practical applications in smart grids, renewable energy integration, and electrical safety. The research shows increasing attention to real-world implementation challenges, particularly in the context of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and grid stability.
- Manby Prize (2020) awarded by Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Publishing, UK
- Honorable mention paper award (2012) given by IEEE, Industry Applications Society, Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee, United States
Prof. Pons serves as Guest Editor for Sustainable Energy, Grids and Networks (2024-), Associate Editor for Frontiers in Energy Research (2022-), and previously as Guest Editor for Energies (2020-2021). He has advised multiple Ph.D. students working on topics related to electric vehicle charging systems, energy transition, and power system stability. His current research projects include EU-DREAM (2024-2027) and OASIS 4 ENERGY (2023-2025), along with numerous commercial research contracts with industry partners. He is actively involved in major international conferences including SEST 2024, where he serves as External Relations Chair and Webmaster.
