About
Enos Bernasconi is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, University of Lugano (USI). His research focuses on HIV infection, antiretroviral therapy, and viral hepatitis co-infections. Over 25 years, he contributed to the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS), leading to landmark findings such as the 'Swiss Statement' (2008), which established that undetectable HIV viremia under effective treatment prevents sexual transmission. His work includes studies on HIV-associated lipoatrophy, adverse effects of antiretrovirals, and hepatitis C elimination strategies in men who have sex with men.
Research highlights include demonstrating the safety of dual antiretroviral therapy (dolutegravir/emtricitabine) and analyzing HIV transmission networks via molecular biology to guide prevention. He holds ORCID iD 0000-0002-9724-8373 and is affiliated with USI's Lugano Campus.
