About
Ender Finol is a Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the Margie and Bill Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design, University of Texas at San Antonio. He holds the Zachry Mechanical Engineering Department Endowed Chair and leads the Vascular Biomechanics and Biofluids Laboratory.
- Education: Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University (2002)
His research focuses on abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), combining biomechanics, biofluids, and machine learning to assess wall stress, segment vascular structures, and predict rupture risks. Recent work includes automated image segmentation, neural network models, and biomechanical stabilization techniques.
His publications highlight trends in patient-specific modeling, hemodynamics, and experimental validation using CT, MRI, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Awards include Fellowships from AIMBE, ASME, and AHA, as well as the AHA Collaborative Sciences Award.
- Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (2025)
- Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (2020)
- Fellow of the American Heart Association (2019)
- Collaborative Sciences Award (AHA, 2016)
His laboratory develops in vitro circulation models and anisotropic AAA replicas for biomechanical studies, contributing to translational research in vascular pathologies.
