About
Emmanuel Otu is a Professor of Chemistry and Director of the MS in Sustainable Management program at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Ottawa (1990). His research focuses on designing analytical chemistry methodologies for hydrometallurgical processing, metal recovery, and environmentally benign wastewater treatment. He also teaches courses in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, and General Chemistry.
His research interests include solvent extraction mechanisms, thermodynamic studies of metal ion separations, and supercritical fluid applications. Notable awards include the Distinguished Research and Creativity Award (2004, 2001), the Indiana University Trustee’s Teaching Award (2001), and recognition through Who’s Who of Africans in America (2006). He has published extensively on topics such as lanthanide extraction, bismuth thermodynamics, and gold recovery using supercritical CO₂.
As an educator, he contributes to both the Chemistry Department and the Sustainable Management program, teaching courses like CHEM 355 (Industrial Chemistry) and SMGT 784 (Sustainable Water Management). His work bridges academic research with practical applications in sustainable technology and environmental stewardship.
