About
Emmanuel Amabebe serves as a Research Scientist at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and holds an Honorary Researcher position at the University of Sheffield, UK. He is an integral member of the Menon laboratory—a scientific consortium dedicated to resolving women's reproductive health complications—and collaborates with Sheffield-based teams identifying vaginal biomarkers for preterm birth.
His research investigates molecular pathways in gestational tissues and body fluids underlying preeclampsia and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Specializing in vaginal bacterial species, metabolites, and immune proteins, his work develops prognostic tools applicable across diverse healthcare settings from resource-limited regions to advanced medical centers. This translational approach bridges basic science with clinical applications in maternal-fetal medicine.
Recipient of the SRI International Training Grant (2020-2021), he leveraged this funding for a Visiting Scientist role at UTMB under Professor Ramkumar Menon. He actively teaches reproductive biology/physiology to undergraduate and postgraduate students while supervising degree-required research projects. As a committed Society for Reproductive Investigation member since connecting through his PhD supervisor Professor Dilly Anumba, he values SRI's global network for advancing collaborative solutions to maternal mortality.
