Emma Widdop

Emma Widdop is a Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. She holds a CMLI (professional accreditation), MA in Landscape Architecture, PG Dip in Landscape Architecture, and a BA (Hons) in Architecture. Her interdisciplinary work bridges art, architecture, and urban design, emphasizing the human experience in design across healthcare, education, and heritage sectors. She also serves as a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture and Sustainable Urbanism at Birmingham City University, leading the BA Landscape Level 5 Year and mentoring Professional Studies.

Research Interests: Emma’s practice-driven research focuses on human-centric design in urban environments, integrating sustainability and cultural heritage. She explores how design can enhance healthcare and educational spaces while addressing environmental challenges.

Advising & Mentorship: Emma mentors students in Professional Studies at Birmingham City University and leads curricular development for landscape architecture programs.

Labs/Teams: Associated with the University of Birmingham’s Human Geography research group and the Cities, Regions and Mobility initiative.
