About
Dr. Emma Watson is a Senior Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry at Monash University, joining the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) in 2025. She previously began her independent career at the University of Adelaide in 2022. She is also an ARC DECRA Fellow and an EMBO postdoctoral alumna, with a strong research profile in chemical biology and therapeutic development.
Her research focuses on creating responsive therapeutic systems using biomolecules and Boolean logic for enhanced precision and safety. Key areas include:
- Developing new methodologies for protein synthesis and late-stage modification
- Studying post-translational modifications in therapeutic proteins
- Using peptide nucleic acids (PNA) in molecular circuits for targeted drug delivery
Her recent publications highlight advancements in PNA chemistry, biosupramolecular networks, and chemical protein synthesis. These works span journals such as Accounts of Chemical Research, Angewandte Chemie, and Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, reflecting interdisciplinary innovation in chemical biology and drug delivery.
She has received prestigious fellowships including:
- EMBO Postdoctoral Fellowship
- ARC DECRA Fellowship
Dr. Watson is actively supervising research and accepting PhD students. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals in health and well-being through advanced therapeutic design. She maintains strong international collaborations, particularly with institutions in Europe, and her research network includes leading groups in Switzerland and Australia.
