Dr Emma Healey is a Reader in Long Term Conditions at Keele University's School of Medicine. She has been affiliated with the university since 2007 and holds roles including Postgraduate Research (PGR) Lead for the School of Medicine and membership of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences PGR committee. Her expertise lies in primary care management of long-term conditions, particularly musculoskeletal disorders like osteoarthritis, and developing physical activity interventions. She chairs the SAPC 'Exercise and Physical Activity as Medicine' Special Interest Group.
Educational Background: BSc Exercise and Sport Science (Manchester Metropolitan University, 2000), PhD in Spinal Biomechanics (Keele University, 2005).
Research focuses on optimizing primary care interventions for chronic conditions, including randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews. Notable projects include NIHR-funded studies on osteoarthritis care and physical activity interventions for older adults with chronic pain. She has supervised three completed PhD students and currently oversees research on health literacy in multimorbidity management.
Teaching Contributions: Leads modules on quantitative research methods (MBChB), public health course units, and evidence-based medicine across Keele's medical and postgraduate programs.
Funding and Grants: Principal Investigator for studies funded by Arthritis Research UK, NIHR Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) West Midlands, and RfPB.
