About
Dr. Emma Haberman is a Junior Research Fellow at Jesus College and a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Institute of Development and Regenerative Medicine, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on stromal cell immunology, autoimmunity in heart failure, and neuroimmune mechanisms regulating obesity. She holds a BMedSc(Hons) from the University of Birmingham (2017) and a DPhil from Oxford (2024), supported by a Wellcome Trust Studentship. Her work bridges immunology and metabolic disorders, with notable contributions to understanding obesity and brown adipose tissue thermogenesis.
Education:
- BMedSc(Hons), Medical Sciences, University of Birmingham (2017)
- Wellcome Trust DPhil Studentship in Infection, Immunology, and Translational Medicine (2019–2024)
Research Interests: Emma investigates the interplay between immune systems and metabolic health, particularly stromal cell dysfunction in autoimmunity and heart failure. Her studies aim to elucidate how neuroimmunoendocrine pathways regulate obesity and energy balance through novel mechanisms involving leptin receptors and sympathetic nervous system interactions.
Awards:
- Wellcome Trust DPhil Studentship in Infection, Immunology, and Translational Medicine
Advising & Grants: While no formal advisees are listed, her research is supported by the Wellcome Trust. She collaborates with labs at the Institute of Development and Regenerative Medicine and the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Institute of Development and Regenerative Medicine, focusing on translational immunology and regenerative therapies for cardiovascular diseases.
