Emma Greenhalgh is a PhD research student at the Department of Human Communication Sciences, School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery, University of Sheffield. She previously worked as an English Language lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Huddersfield.
- Education: BA, PGCE in ESOL, MA in Applied Linguistics (with distinction) from the University of Nottingham.
Her research interests include applying Conversation Analysis to study communicative competence in atypical interactions, investigating institutional discourse in educational and healthcare contexts, and exploring the use of Corpus Linguistics in intercultural pragmatic training for international students. Her PhD project focuses on how second language teachers and speech and language therapists teach and assess language.
- Presentations: Presented on laughter in English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) at BAAL 2013 and British Council Seminar Series 2013-14.
