Dr. Emma Gordon is a Lecturer in Applied Ethics at the University of Glasgow’s Department of Philosophy and Head of Interdisciplinary Research at the Cogito Epistemology Research Centre. Previously, she held a Research Fellowship at the Eidyn Research Centre, University of Edinburgh. Her research spans applied ethics (bioethics, neuroethics, medical ethics, environmental ethics, technology ethics, and gender/race studies), normative ethics (moral psychology, trust, emotions, wellbeing), and epistemology (understanding, social epistemology, intellectual virtues/vices). Her work integrates philosophy with medicine (pharmacology, addiction) and psychology (counselling, psychotherapy). She is the author of *Human Enhancement and Well-Being: A Case for Optimism* (Routledge, 2022).
Teaching includes courses like *Contemporary Ethics* (convenor/lecturer), *History of Moral Philosophy: Kant*, and *Philosophy 1B: What is Good?*. She supervises PhD students in bioethics, applied epistemology, and metaethics. As Head of Interdisciplinary Research at Cogito, she fosters collaborations between philosophy and fields like medicine, psychology, law, and engineering. She also serves as Scientific Adviser on the *Dimensions of Wellbeing* project and co-leads the Arts Concordat ECR Network for early-career researcher support.
Her interdisciplinary work includes exploring pharmacological enhancement’s ethical implications, psychedelic use in moral development, and the ethics of mental health interventions. She maintains a part-time practice as an integrative psychotherapist, specializing in relationship counseling and LGBTQ+ issues, with over 1900 clinical hours and qualification as a casework supervisor.
