Emma Geron

Professor Emma Geron is a pioneering academic and researcher in sports psychology, born in Sliven on October 13, 1920. She earned her doctorate at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and held significant roles at the Higher Institute of Physical Culture (HIPC) in Bulgaria, including heading the Psychology Department and authoring foundational psychology textbooks (1957, 1961, 1965). In 1967, she became a professor and lectured on sports psychology in Leipzig, establishing a psychology laboratory for national team research.

Her research spans sports psychology, ergonomics, and gerontology, with a focus on integrating psychological principles into physical education and sports training. In Israel, she founded and led a laboratory for psychological and medical sports research and contributed to digital education in psychology.

She received the highest degree for personal contributions to sports psychology from the World Sports Psychology Federation and held leadership roles in international associations, including President of the European Federation of Sports Psychology (1968) and Vice-President (1973-1977), as well as being a member of the American Academy of Physical Education and the International Association of Applied Psychology.

Her academic career included founding the "Behaviour Psychology" section in an Israeli sports research department and lecturing at Zinman College of Physical Education and Wingate Sports Institute. She remains a key figure in the development of sports psychology globally.
