Emir Estrada

Dr. Emir Estrada is an Associate Professor at Arizona State University’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change. His research focuses on immigrant experiences, particularly Latin American immigrants, emphasizing children and the elderly. He employs qualitative methodologies to explore migration, family dynamics, and social integration. Estrada holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from USC (2012), and a B.A. in Sociology with a Chicano/a Studies minor from UCLA, complemented by studies at Long Beach City College.

His research interests include transnational families, street vending economies, DACA policy impacts, and cultural identity formation. Recent work analyzes photovoice methodologies and the symbolic use of national symbols among immigrant communities. He co-founded the Facing Immigration Lab, which engages students and community members in collaborative art projects like muralism to address social issues.

His publications span migration policies, youth perspectives on the American Dream, and the socio-economic realities of immigrant street vendors. Though no formal awards are listed, his work has contributed significantly to understanding marginalized communities’ lived experiences.
