Emilyn Claid is a Professor at Falmouth University's School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Arts and Creative Exchange. Her career spans over five decades in choreography, academic research, and psychotherapy. She holds a PhD in Dance Studies (University of Surrey) and MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy. Claid's work integrates choreographic practice with existential psychology, queer theory, and relational performance studies. She has held leadership roles including Director of BA/MA Choreography at Dartington College of Arts during its merger with Falmouth University.
Research focuses on embodied movement processes, ambiguity in performance, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Notable publications include her 2006 Routledge monograph *Yes? No! Maybe… Seductive Ambiguity in Dance Theatre Performance* and her 2021 book *FALLING through dance and life*. She has conducted research labs globally (Auckland, Beijing, Hong Kong) and serves as an external examiner for dance programs at institutions like Goldsmiths, Roehampton, and Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.
Awards include the 1995 Arts Council/BBC2 Dance for Camera Award and multiple research grants from the Arts & Humanities Research Council. Claid maintains a private Gestalt psychotherapy practice in London while continuing choreographic projects internationally.
