Emily Smith

Emily Smith is an Assistant Professor at VCU Interior Design within VCUarts at Virginia Commonwealth University. A certified interior designer, her research spans community-engaged design through the middle Of broad studio (co-leading interdisciplinary teams with community partners), pattern analysis of built/natural environments (Patterns of Place project examining cultural and climate impacts), and material innovation (Material Being project developing interactive materials databases).

Her professional background includes sustainable design practice with firms on both US coasts and collaboration with the US Green Building Council on LEED-certified projects. She holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BS from Virginia Tech.
