Dr. Emily S. Kinsky is the Jenny Lind Porter Professor of Communication and Interim Department Head for the Department of English, Philosophy, and Modern Languages at West Texas A&M University. She holds a B.A. from Baylor University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Mass Communications from Texas Tech University. Her research focuses on public relations practice/pedagogy and media messaging, including portrayals of PR and educational narratives in fiction. She co-authored Chapter 5 of the 2023 Commission on Public Relations Education (CPRE) report on undergraduate PR education and serves as CPRE’s Research Co-Chair.
Dr. Kinsky teaches courses in Media Design, New Media, and Media Innovations. She co-founded the student-run PR firm 1910 PR, affiliated with the Public Relations Student Society of America. She is an Adobe Education Leader and serves on editorial boards for journals like the Journal of Public Relations Research and Journal of Public Relations Education. Her leadership roles include past head of the AEJMC Public Relations Division and Fulbright National Screening Committee member.
Her work bridges academia and practice, emphasizing creative pedagogy, data literacy, and crisis communication. Recent research explores prosocial messages in Korean dramas, Twitter responses to cultural shifts, and strategies for data-driven PR leadership. Awards include her endowed professorship and recognition for innovation in education technology.
