Emily Rowe

Dr Emily Rowe is a Lecturer in Early Modern Literature at King's College London's Department of English (Faculty of Arts & Humanities). She holds a PhD from Newcastle University (2022), MA in Renaissance Literature from the University of York (2017), and BA in English Literature from Aberystwyth University (2015). Her research focuses on early modern prose/drama, material culture, ecocriticism, urban history, and military literature. She founded the Early Modern Metals Network, a transdisciplinary research collective.

Her work bridges textual analysis with historical contexts, particularly examining how material objects and military conflicts shaped early modern narratives. She regularly contributes to public scholarship through film critiques (e.g., analyzing Shakespeare adaptations in popular media) and academic commentary.

Teaching specialties include early modern poetry, drama, and prose across undergraduate/postgraduate programs. Office hours: Mon/Thu 15:00-16:00 in the Virginia Woolf Building (22 Kingsway, London).
