Emily Middleton

Dr. Emily Middleton is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's College of Letters & Science. Her research examines evolutionary adaptations in the human torso skeleton, integrating morphological analysis with locomotor, environmental and genetic data across anthropoid primates. Key investigations include:

• Ribcage-spine-pelvis covariation under selective pressures
• Obstetric and respiratory constraints in skeletal evolution
• Climate adaptation influences on skeletal morphology

Her work is funded by Wenner-Gren Foundation, Leakey Foundation, and American Association of Anatomists. Teaching includes Human Skeleton, Paleoanthropology, Primate Evolution and Forensic Anthropology courses. Research contributes to reconstructing anatomical changes in human lineage evolution.
