About
Emily Lindsay is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on psychological and biological pathways of mindfulness interventions impacting stress, emotion, and health outcomes. She leads the Complementary Health Interventions Lab (CHIL), which investigates mind-body pathways to promote health and wellness.
- Education: Ph.D. in Psychology from Carnegie Mellon University
Her work explores how mindfulness-based interventions reduce stress and improve social functioning, particularly in vulnerable populations like older adults and those with chronic stress. Key areas include immune system modulation, glucocorticoid resistance, and the role of acceptance in stress buffering. Recent studies demonstrate mindfulness's effects on inflammation markers, social connectedness, and emotional regulation.
Publications highlight mechanisms linking mindfulness to health outcomes, including randomized controlled trials showing reduced loneliness and enhanced immune responses. Her research emphasizes translational applications of mindfulness training in clinical and community settings.
Lindsay accepts graduate students and maintains an active lab with a focus on biobehavioral research methods. Contact: emily.lindsay@pitt.edu, Old Engineering Hall, Pittsburgh, PA.
