Emily L. Behrman

Emily L. Behrman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Dartmouth College. She holds academic appointments in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program, Ecology, Evolution, Environment and Society Graduate Program, and Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth Graduate Program. Her research focuses on evolutionary mechanisms of behavior using Drosophila as a model system, combining genetics, neurobiology, and field ecology to study behavioral evolution across ecological and evolutionary timescales.

• Education: PhD from University of Pennsylvania; BA from Williams College

Research interests include understanding how genetic and neural mechanisms constrain or enable behavioral adaptation, with particular focus on sexual selection and rapid environmental adaptation. Her lab integrates lab experiments with field studies to link behavioral traits to evolutionary outcomes in natural populations.

Collaborative affiliations include the Department of Sociology and Department of Chemistry at Dartmouth College. Current projects investigate neural underpinnings of mating behaviors and the evolutionary dynamics of seasonal adaptation in fruit flies.
