Emily Howe

Emily Howe is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Music at Curry College. Her research focuses on music and cultural performance in Trinidad and Tobago, exploring themes of resilience and ingenuity among Black, Indigenous, and Asian communities. She was awarded a grant from the Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation to study festivals such as Trinidad's Emancipation Day and Tobago's Heritage Festival, aiming to create inclusive music curricula that highlight global cultural histories. Howe emphasizes music's role in fostering critical thinking and empathy among students, aligning with Curry's mission of global citizenship. She plans to involve students in events like Cambridge Carnival to deepen their understanding of Caribbean cultural heritage.
