Emily Gottreich is an Adjunct Professor of Global Studies and Political Economy and a Faculty Affiliate in the Department of History and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures at the University of California, Berkeley. She also serves as a Senior Research Scholar at CMES (Center for Middle Eastern Studies).

Her research centers on Moroccan Jewish history and Muslim-Jewish relations within broader Arab-Islamic contexts. She co-founded the UC-systemwide MENA-J (Middle East and North Africa Jewry) Program, dedicated to documenting and preserving Jewish history across the MENA region.
Between 2009-2013, she served as President of the American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS), a scholarly organization focused on North African studies. Her courses include Jews and Muslims, North Africa: History, Culture, Society, and Senior Thesis in Middle Eastern Studies.
